Sesquicentenary celebrations concluded :
January saw the concluding ceremonies of the 150th
Sesquicentenary celebrations of the School and College. On
the 16th January the School together with the College
welcomed the Prime Minister as the chief guest for the
opening of the celebrations. January 18th saw 150 boys of
the Primary School welcome the Religious leaders with diyas
on the occasion of the Multi-Religious Prayer Service.
At
the cultural programme a play on the life (a segment) of St.
Francis Xavier was put on by the boys of the Primary section
along with some of the boys of class 6 and an audio visual
presentation of the birth of St. Xavier’s School! A tribute
was also paid to an old Xaverian and ex Chief Minister of
West Bengal, Shri Jyoti Basu, who passed away the previous
day. The Secondary boys presented two excellent dance dramas
invoking the blessings of the Almighty on this 150 year old
Institution. And they also put up various events, fusion and
classical music, Eastern songs and dance items. Our thanks
go to all the teachers and students who gave of their time
and energies to make the occasion a memorable one.
150th year School Wall Calendar and the School Calendar: A
staff team consisting of Fr. Sebastian James, Mr. J Kallor,
Ms. V. Hildreth and Mrs. Aarti Hirjee worked tirelessly to
bring out a most beautiful wall calendar, with the theme
being the School anthem. A copy was given to every member of
the Staff and Student body. The same team worked hard to
bring out the special School Calendar for the Jubilee year
2009-2010.
